We’re hiring a founding backend/data engineer to build the core systems our AI depends on (the data layer, sync pipelines, and agent APIs). You’ll work directly with the founders and own major pieces of the architecture from day one.

What You’ll Do

• Evolve the foundation: You will help us transform our data layer into a mature and battle-tested system. You will build pipelines to extract context from third-party tools and normalize it into a queryable organizational knowledge base.

• Build "Agent-Ready" interfaces: You aren't just building APIs for a frontend; you are building tools for AI agents. You will abstract away the complexities of external platforms into reliable, clean interfaces that our AI agents can control autonomously.

• Orchestrate async workflows: We use sleep-time compute cycles to analyze data when users aren't looking. You will manage the worker infrastructure that allows agents to plan cycles, execute sub-tasks, and sync data in the background.

• Semantic search & RAG: You will ensure that as soon as data flows in, it is vector-embedded and ready for retrieval, keeping our AI's context window fresh.

• Ship for the user: We don't optimize code just for the sake of code. You will build with a relentless focus on how the end-user experiences the product: speed, reliability, and magic.

• Backend: Python, FastAPI, ARQ

• Data: PostgreSQL, Qdrant

• Infra: AWS, Terraform, Docker, Github Actions

• Frontend: TypeScript, Next.js, Tailwind

Who You Are

• 3+ years of backend experience or a proven history of "high slope" engineering (you learn incredibly fast and build complex side projects).

• System thinker: You understand that "syncing data" isn't just about copying rows; it's about handling diffs, rate limits, and eventual consistency.

• Pragmatic & low ego: You step up in incidents to unblock teammates. You believe the best idea wins, not the loudest voice.

• Product mindset: You don't just write code; you build solutions. You have deep empathy for the user and optimize for the feeling of the final product, not just the cleanliness of the architecture.

• Startup ready: You are autonomous, ownership-driven, and able to navigate ambiguity. You don't wait for a spec; you find the problem and solve it.

• Global communicator: You are proactive and reliable, capable of coordinating effectively between our Ghent and our San Francisco presence.

The Bond Offer

• Ghent Roots, Silicon Valley Access:
  You will work out of the Wintercircus in the beautiful city center of Ghent.
  We regularly travel to San Francisco to work with our Co-Founder & CEO, investors, clients and partners. You are expected to join us. This is your ticket to the global tech ecosystem.

• Competitive Pay: 70k – 140k EUR / year. We aim to pay top-tier rates for the Belgian market.

• Ownership: 0.25% – 0.50% Equity. You are a builder, and you should own what you build.
